I have on the NC31 CB400 at the moment Avon roadrider front: 110/70-17 54H rear: 140/70-17 66H
Can anyone recommend tyres they have on there NC31 CB400?
Has anyone useed Dunlop Arrowmax D103?
Was thinking of switching to Dunlop RoadSmarts 110/70-17 front and 150/70-17 rear.

Yes i use at the present time Dunlop Arrowmax D103 110/70/17 and 140/70/17.I think it is a good tyre better(for me) from my older Michelin Pilot Active.Drumstick wrote:I have on the NC31 CB400 at the moment Avon roadrider front: 110/70-17 54H rear: 140/70-17 66H

My opinion is to stick at 140/70/17.With 150 you will have worse handling and high-volume fuel.

Bridgestone Battlax BT45's are the only tyres I would have on mine. I don't know, maybe other tyres perform better at high speeds or something but for the kind of moderate riding I do they're perfect, they last a long a time and they are plenty grippy enough for me.

Re: Anyone recommend Tyres For NC31
I bought my bike with 150 size on the rear. Should I go for 140 next? Its my first bike and have never felt relaxed on her yet around corners and so on. How much of a difference is there between the 150 & 140 size?tomigun wrote:Yes i use at the present time Dunlop Arrowmax D103 110/70/17 and 140/70/17.I think it is a good tyre better(for me) from my older Michelin Pilot Active.Drumstick wrote:I have on the NC31 CB400 at the moment Avon roadrider front: 110/70-17 54H rear: 140/70-17 66H

I've been researching tyres due to the more unusual tyre size of the CB, and the Avon AM26 Roadrider get great reviews all over the net.
You can get a pair of them on eBay delivered for £147, pop in item number 120785566857.

Re: Anyone recommend Tyres For NC31
I've used roadriders on a CB-1 and really really hated them. They are very triangular/sharp so have small contact patch when upright, and square off quickly because of it. However they then last about 12k miles, most of which is covered on squared off tyres. The supersports profile is just too steep, and there's an almost scary drop off as you get to further-over lean angles. Also, because of the triangle profile, unless you're on a race track you won't get anywhere near the edge, so will look like you ride slowly, and no one likes that. They also are not sticky especially in the wet, the little CB with it's massive 50hp will spin up the rear in the wet.Bigdave982 wrote:I've been researching tyres due to the more unusual tyre size of the CB, and the Avon AM26 Roadrider get great reviews all over the net.

So yeh, roadriders suck.
Stick with BT45, they are ancient technology but are known to work very well, and hold out for a good 12k miles or so, working well for most of that time.
Or if you really need more grip, I used to like the BT92, do they still make it?

Re: Anyone recommend Tyres For NC31
I have to agree
,
I've got roadriders on mine, as when purchased it had a brand new rear & the front needed replacing so I put a new roadrider on the front. simples I thought well they are fine in the dry but I find them downright scary in the wet, & I've been riding for 25+ years on everything from C90's & fantic cabaleros to zx10r's & bmw's s1000r.
I WON'T BE REPLACING MINE WITH ANYMORE !.

Re: Anyone recommend Tyres For NC31
I've got an Avon Roadrider on mine at the back, simply does not grip!
On the front I've a Continental contimotion which is pretty good but not available in the right size for the back.
I've owed my bike 2 months and I'll be replacing with a matching pair whatever I do.
Has anyone any "hands on" experience of a 150 profile tyre on the back as some cracking tyres come in that size??

Re: Anyone recommend Tyres For NC31
i'm running a Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmart 150 on the back and the same but 110 on the front. Bike handles beautifully and has Loads and Loads of grip. Had a Pirelli SportDemon 140 before on the back and it is no comparison to the Dunlop.
Hope that helps.

Re: Anyone recommend Tyres For NC31
I was looking into the tyre sizes and the later CB400's run 120/60's on the front and 150/60's on the rear.
There's so many more tyres available in that size and the newer bike is essentially the same, so handling and balance must be unaffected or Honda wouldn't do it.
Looks like I'll be getting some Michelin Pilot Powers I love so much :0)
