Swingarm adjuster bolt seized

Post by Drunkn Munky »

Ok anyone have any tips for removing this little bugger
Image

Ive had it soaking in plus gas for a week or so, tried the windy gun. tried heating it and i massive breaker bar which has tonight resulted in the spindle thats used to turn the adjuster nut now just spinning inside so the spindle is now useless in terms of getting it out.
Probably be easier to reframe it but the frame is very clean and id like to keep numbers matching so any suggestions before i cut through it here,

If a week in plus gas and a windy gun won't shift it - I am not sure what will.

Before getting all 'medieval' on it - might be worth trying some heat to break the sticktion.

Good luck

[Edit] - Dohh - just read your post again and see you have tried the heat already.

Careful not to damage that Magnesium swingarm when you cut it out :P

Hang on a mo..

Which bit is it that is actually stuck - item 8 below?

IE - the threaded adjuster shown here midle row L/H side, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

If so it should have a large hex hole that the bolt head locates into. can you not get a big allan socket into that - or is that what you have managed to strip with the breaker bar? If so I would try and find somone with access to some welding gear and get them to weld a feck off big bolt into the hole then get you breaker bar + a lump of scafold pole and get all medievil on it

Loving the ideas of bigger tools, you can beat a big tool :)

Ian, yes part no.8 and yes it is meant to come out by placing the spindle inside and turning it out with a 14mm hex bit but this has stripped the contact between the adjuster bolt and the spindle so this is no longer possible. If I can in there with a welder then wwelding the spindle to the bolt might do it.

As the bike had been standing for 12 years I did contemplate putting it all back together without the lock nut on and see if using the bike may free it up with liberal amounts of plus gas occasionally applied but the thought of it going back together wihout new swingarm bearings sent me into a cold sweat lol

why o why does everyone seem to do that part up so tight, only supposed to be 15Nm.

Get an old socket welded to it
