I hate to say it kieran but if you even hope to be competitive in the rookie or sub 64 class then you will need a 17 inch for tyre choice
With an 18 + tyres for it you will be competitive with someone but not in the grid area that you will be happy with
You will be more beneficial with a heavy bros wheel + a decent tyre rather than a lighter stock 18" wheel + an 090 or similar

Yea im under no illusion that i will be competitive in sub64's even if i had a 80bhp ZXR lol. Truth is im too much of a tight arse to pay 250 odd quid for an RVF rear, so ill be sticking with an 18 incher untill i start to feel like the bt090's are holding me back and then ill get my hands on a 17' rear and pay a decent price for one.

Thats unless i spot a well priced RS250 magtek or similar which i dont mind paying a bit more for.

Kieran,

I have a RVF wheel that I dont use, I use 750 wheels and hub on mine.

Dont mind lending it to you for a weekend to use, that way you can use some decent race scrubs. It may mess with the geomentary as it will drop the rear ride height, dunno what shock you use but it wouldn't be a big job to put a revised dog bone into it.

Then you could use your 18 for a wet rear.

That's a brilliant offer mate and something I will definatly take you up on. I have got an RVF linkage so that's no problem, only an hours work or so to swap them over.

Really apreciate that mate.

I'm bidding on a Bros rear wheel at the moment as it's a lot more affordable than an RVF rear wheel.

I was planning on using the standard wheels but I didn't think you could get wets in an 18"

Zippy has the right idea, ive used a bros wheel before as many have, theres no point whatsoever going racing with 18" road tyres + no warmers, theres no nice way about saying that you will come off, fact, the repairs from 1 crash could be the price of an rvf wheel, thats not including the fact it could be in qualifying that you may come off which could then be the weekend over, all in all it could work out a very expensive lesson + still without a 17" wheel

zippy - please dont tell me you bid + bought the black bros wheel on ebay? There are a fair few on there for £20 buy now, tony will be able tk show or tell you where to notch it out or better still use some shortened sprocket studs as disc bolt + leave the wheel unmodified

Yes I did buy it, Tony insisted they only went for about £20 and bloody typical the one I want went for £75.

We'll get it sorted no problems. I would prefer an RVF wheel just for the looks but we'll see about that.

Me and Tony are busy discussing Team liveries at the moment, will hinge on who are title sponsor will be.

I dont understand why there wouldnt be a point in going racing with an 18' rear and 090's and its going to mean a certain crash? I doubt ill be good enough for a long time to reach the limits of the bridgestones, i havent got the budget to make it to every round and be competitive, im doing it for the craic and to get my national license so i can race my 30 at the Manx.

See your point on the warmers, but again for me at the moment its an unnecesary expense and Mark winning 2 races without them is enough to convince me i dont need them yet.

But regardless of that it looks like ive bought an RVF wheel thats even cheap enough for a stingy git like me to open my wallet and when i say cheap i mean ridiculously cheap. Heres to hoping its the real deal.
