NC30 floats / height / springyness
Hey all,
As part of this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=44795
I am now attempting to do the float heights. I feel a little unexperienced here.
I find the 'springyness' of each of the float valves is different - well two are similar, but they're not all the same. I would have thought they'd all be uniform.
For example, if I turn the carbs upside down (float bowls removed) two of the carbs floats seem to just rest upon the float valves - if I push them they go in and spring back, so they're not stuck or anything. Another cab pushes it all the way in just under the weight of the floats.
What should happen when the carbs are upside down? Should just the weight of the floats press the float valves shut?

Check the one that pushes all the way down , the floats can puncture and fill up with petrol which is heavy and can cause problems.

Thanks. All floats are dry. A quick 'shake' reveals nothing.
However, I thought I'd do a swap of the saggy one with one of the other 'feels-too-buoyant' ones. Guess what:

The replacement carbs have three different float valve types!!!! No wonder it felt like there was three different buoyancies.
The one on the left is the saggy one, and the two right ones are the too-buoyant ones. I think the one second from the left is the proper one as it is like the ones from the other set of carbs. Heaven knows what the other ones are.
So, great. I was hoping not to have to use the float valves from my seized-up carbs (refer build thread), but looks like I will have to.
Note the mild corrosion:

Nice one Vic Motorcycles Wreckers. Sell you rubbish for a premium price.

Just to close this one off. Surprise surprise, using the same valves in each carbs made life a lot easier.
