Discovered Unknown Wiring 'Mod' RVF400
Hey guys,
I just noticed now, because I pulled the rear fairings off to glue some tabs that broke off.
The bike runs fine, so it doesn't seem to be the cause of any trouble.
Basically the orange/blue wire from the CDI has been snipped and another piece of wire added which then runs to the black/brown wire on the rear brake light switch.
I have no idea why or what it's meant to do.
I'm going to do some investigating now, but any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!
Edit: I forgot the Haynes manual had a wiring diagram, it looks like that wire from the CDI is supposed to go to the rev limiter...
Not sure why it's been soldered to the brake light switch though.

not picking any issue with DM's use of the word as many people use the same but I dont know why it got the name "limp home mode" which is more akin to a modern car that cuts performance when a sensor malfunctions to avoid damaging the engine.
Its just a restriction mode.
Japanese law required a 180km/h (112mph) restriction on top speed, this is triggered by the speedometer and cuts the sparks to the rear(I believe) cylniders to stop you going over the speed. If you remove the speedo the system is always on over 5500rpm to prevent speeding.
The "detection" system is primative and all you need to do to bypass disconnecting the speedo limiter is wire the aformentioned wire to 12v.

This mod will have removed the 180 km/h factory speed restriction, easiest way to do so on rvf's.wogstaa wrote: Basically the orange/blue wire from the CDI has been snipped and another piece of wire added which then runs to the black/brown wire on the rear brake light switch.

Thanks for the info guys, I wasn't sure what it was because it's not the same method of de-restricting that I've seen in guides etc.
