NC35/NC30 No indicators

Hey lads,

I have an RVF with a VFR engine and electronics that has no indicators.

The bike was purchased as a trackbike that never really made it to the track so i don't know if the indicators ever worked.

I have rebuilt it from the ground up, every nut and bolt, also installed Koso gauges.

I cannot for the life of me get the indicators to work, I have 12v on the black/brown wire of the flasher relay and 7v on the grey wire that goes to the switchblock. I compared these voltages to another working old CBR and they show the same voltages only once you switch on the indicators, the 7v is pulled to ground at 0v and the relay clicks away.

I have reconnected the old clocks, to no avail, disconnected the switchblock and tried shorting grey to orange and grey to blue, i have checked for continuity on all wires and all seems ok.

I still don't trust the switchblock 100% cause i know they are notorious for burning out and it did have higher wattage globes in it.

I've tried another flasher relay.

Any suggestions???

Do they light up at all? Have you checked the switch itself? I've never had the nc30 indicator switch in bits so cant tell much, sorry.
But id be checking for continuity on the switch, tho it could just be dirty and metering out ok but going open circuit when theres a load on it.

No, they don't light up at all.

I have checked the switch and it checks ok for continuity from Grey(supply) to the Orange and Blue(left and right) while switching.

I'm going to grab a switch off a guy here and check back to back, failing that i'm going to have to load the bike up and take it to his and compare all voltages and measurements.

I know this may sound silly but make 100% sure everything is plugged in properly, my headlights were not going onto high beam and the relay was clicking so all seemed well, as I decided to take the relay out, as I did I realised that the one clip was not 100% home and suddenly everything worked. You may have covered this already but just in case.

No not silly, I checked all contacts and cleaned with contact cleaner.

Remove the turn signal relay and apply 12 volts to the grey wire terminal, select left and right, and appropriate lamps should illuminate. If so then fault is between turn relay and the switch, maybe a poor connection that causes excessive voltage drop under load. Is your replacement turn relay a known good unit?

Yes, when I apply 12v straight to the grey, the appropriate side lights up.

And the flasher relay was straight out of my daily ride.

It was the flasher relay, same one I tried the first time? Mustn't have been holding my tongue the right way!

No wonder it was doing my head in cause everything was as it should be.
