NC29 Rear Master Cylinder

Hi everyone

Looking at the Brembo rear master cylinder as a replacement/upgrade and had a couple of questions:

1. What mm side exit is required
2. What do they mean when they say requires remote reservoir? Is this just another name for the brake reservoir such as the HRC ones GF sells?
3. Does this unit just go straight in/direct swap - no modification necessary?

If anyone wants to check what I'm looking at intobikes has them on sale at the mo'.

[Parus] If mounting length is same you would not have any problem. But you need care about piston size. E.g. - following chainess rubish listed as for CBR400 but the piston and preasure it quite slow. I have bought this one and sold it out.

Hi

I know I've been a while replying to this but I am really struggling to get the correct info/answer to this question:

When Buying an aftermarket Rear Master Cylinder for my 1990 CBR400RR NC29 what size of piston should I be getting. I have asked a number of websites and have asked on here and on Practical Sportsbikes pages and no-one has answered.

I've been looking at the Brembo replacement parts on intobikes and they list 11mm and 13mm and say these are the respective piston sizes but which do I need?

Hi Sorry I cant answer your questionbased on any fact, but i would think the only effect of having a larger piston would be greater diplacement for each mm of push rod travel. The effect of this would be more power/ sensitivity to the brakes.
So I would say go for the larger one but that is just an opinion.

Most Rear M/C are 11mm or 13mm for road use.

Anything under 750cc & 100 BHP I use 11mm, race bikes 11mm (u can really jump on the pedal and modulate the pedal for a good feel, 750cc + 13mm.

Nearly all Brembo remote M/C are 40mm centre to centre mounting. So no it wont bolt up to the Honda bracket.

According to the Haynes manual, the OEM rear master cylinder ID is 14mm.

Smaller = more power (not really useful on a rear brake) with a longer throw required. Larger = less power (but greater "feel") with less throw required.

Based on the OEM size being 14mm, I would not want to use a smaller m/c on my bike...
