The first 3 pics are the tool i used to get the damper rod assembly apart;



This is a pic of the racetech gold valve, and the next is a valve assembled with the shim stack (not an RVF but very similar).

Somewhat ironic that the Roses tin is the exact same type I was using when doing mine... lol Yes, that does help, I now understand where everything goes. I think I'll tap Rick up for some bits and just swap the springs and cartridges out for stuff suited to my weight and style as supplied by someone who knows what they are talking about!
