Remove the spark plugs and crank the engine with the Run/Stop switch in Stop. Any fuel in the cylinders will be ejected. Sticking needles or floats will allow the cardies to flood although the vacuum operated fuel tap should stop fuel flow when the engine is stopped.

Re: Starter Motor Banging now and again
Hi Magg,
I looked at your response earlier today at work & been thinking about it all day, also talked it through with a guy well know to this forum and he came to the same conlcusion so this is what i did soon as i got home
Pressed the starter button to find it locking not turning over the motor .......
Removed tank from bike and tested fuel tap - in the on position "as i always leave it" i never turn it off fuel flowed constantly - I then removed both rearward facing spark plugs pressed starter botton and a jet of fuel fires up out of the right rear cylinder and hits the ceiling of my garage roof, lucky nobody was assisting me as they would have been covered and maybe hit in the face it was that fierce.
So i have ordered a new fuel tap repair kit honda genuine part , the carbs will be coming of and float levels checked along with cleaning the litle shut of valves things in there, and i think i will buy new pilot jets.
I feel pleased i know what the issue has been but my only concern is will i could i have have damaged the conrod or valves during the last 7- 10 times the engine has locked up of the starter motor inersia what do you think?
I ran the bike round locally last night and at low revs it was hesitant but pulled hard when you get going ....I hope its just overfueling one cylinder with the stuck open float..............
Kind Regards

Re: Starter Motor Banging now and again
If it runs ok, no odd noises etc I would think there has been no damage to the engine. The hesitation could be an unrelated carby issue, did the bike hesitate before your flooding problem started.
My apologies for not suggesting hydraulic lock earlier but I do not associate it with your metallic clanking noise.

Re: Starter Motor Banging now and again
Hi again Magg,
Yes to be fair the reason the carbs have been off the bike is the bike was hesitant form tick over when i took it out of storage, Its been parked up for 8 years or so, with this in mind i will try to be confident there has been no damage and it is a carb issue, I was told it could well be overfueling at low revs causing the slight miss when the throttle is just taken off tick over.
Anyway i will know in the next week or so as the carbs are getting "ultrasonicly" if thats how you spell it cleaned this wednesday so all being well should have it all boxed up by next week end to report !
I do hope its all ok - if not i will cross that bridge later....
Thanks & Kind Regards.
