Re: What did you do with your NC30/35 today?
I bought some new Vernier Calipers and some new better feeler gauges ready to check the valve clearances after oulton and before Bemsee round at Donington on the 27th 28th.
All clearances are bar one is within spec but all on the tight side, I think the HRC manual says to have them on the slack side for the best power, however one was too tight so needed to be re shimmed. I have got one complete engine in bits so went through my bag of spare shims and swapped it.
Thank god it was a shim on the rear cylinders, I bet the fronts are a real pig to change.
This done I fired it up to warm it through, ready to drop the oil for a oil and filter change, and noticed that my rev counter had lost the plot and was reading double!! So tickover was at 6K and a light blip on the throttle had the revs round in the red at 16K.
Whilst the oil was draining I cheked the earths on the clocks and the earth at the front coil gave them a clean but both seemed ok to be honest.
oil change etc complete I fired it back up to see if the rev counter had sorted itself out, it hadnt! so i changed the current ECU for a spare one, tried again and still got the same problem!
I've got a fresh tacho coming so will swap that in and see if any change, hope i can solve it before Donington, i've never ridden there before and would like to have a fully working tacho for the weekend!

Re: What did you do with your NC30/35 today?
Stripped mine completely a couple of months ago and have been slowly rejuvenating everything, engine went back in a month ago (after powdercoating the covers) and the bits and pieces are coming together quite quickly now, put the calipers back on it last night (one of the bolt holes was stripped so I had to helicoil it), need to bleed them on the weekend and then hopefully get it to start again (nervous that I may have upset electrics in the process), then its going to go to have a stainless exhaust collector built after which it will be dyno tuned (while all the fairings are off) and then its the last bit of assembly... hopefully I can park it in the house while I do that because its winter here and working at night under a carport isn't cool (its cold :))

Well project RVF fired into life today with no complaints what so ever, not bad considering it hadn't been run for about 8 years atleast

Afraid not mate, ive not had time to touch it so it still has a few issues. Isnt there a classic bike trackday at brands later in the year? It'll WILL be ready for that one28hodge wrote:will the z400 make the party as well so i can gawp at it?

Search for all the parts that might be needed for a full maintenance on my bro's NC35 starting this weekend...still missing a set of viton carb seals, contacted Rick, prep'd all the tools, the ultrasonic cleaner tank and degrease tank all cleaned, air compressor plus tools installed and ready to work...

Re: What did you do with your NC30/35 today?
Woooo hoooo :) She started. At first it only ran on two cylinders but by putting my hands in front of the exhausts (no collector at this point), I found that the right two cylinders were not firing, then I realised their supply line sits slightly higher than the left two, then I realised that the tank was really empty, and after crossing my fingers and turning to "reserve" - whuuuuuuuum
Now its, exhaust, dyno, fit body kit, paint and ride
