Fun with 76 engine numbers

Anyone have a 76 with an engine code that starts with K707? My standard bike starts K709. My buddy has an SP so I thought it would start with K707 like my spare engine. Not so, his SP is K709 as well.

I know K is 400cc, 7 is four stroke and the last two are supposed to be development series (per the internet).

My K707 engine came with a 1990 SP2 CDI and I am trying to find out if it really is and SP2 engine. The workshop manual isn't much of a help as it doesn't list the engine code for the SP2.

Any idea on the years they were and SP/non SP?

I did stumble across some Bandit cases on Ebay and they were K707. So far I see no rhyme or reason to the numbering.

I'm with you on all the frame numbers but since I have no frame for the spare engine I was trying to see if I could identify it off the engine serial number. No luck so far, even Suzuki Japan wanted a frame number to confirm what the engine would be.

I would be taking a look at the parts book for the different SP parts then maybe check them on the motor.
If you get the sump off you will be able to count the number of teeth on the gears as im sure the ratios are listed.

Hmm, didn't think about counting the teeth on the gears. I'll pull the head cover off shortly and see what the exhaust cam has stamped on it. But yes, the gearing would show SP or SP2.
