When you measured 52,0,0 volts AC was the rect/reg connected? When you measured 51,44,35 volts AC was the rect/reg connected? You will not measure a voltage greater than 12 volt AC at the yellow wires with the rect/reg connected if the rect/reg is funtioning correctly.
If you measure more than 12 volts AC between any pair of yellow wires with the rect/reg connected then the rect/reg is faulty. You can test the rect/reg for this fault condition.

I did the check across the battery then pulled the three yellow out the reg/rec and tested. I then separated the bullet connectors through the v and tested the three yellow coming out the alternator.
Should i test both ends with it connected then by sticking the tester spikes in the back of the connectors?

As Tornado said, with the rect/reg disconnected, the voltage between the yellow wire pairs should be the same at the V connector and the rect/reg connector otherwise you still have a wiring fault. You should also measure the resistance between the yellow wires and chassis earth, these all should measure infinity.
One you have establish reliable connections between the alternator and the rect/reg connector, plug in the rect/reg and measure the DC voltage between the red and black wires at the rect/reg connector. This voltage should be 14-15 volts DC at 5000 rpm. If less than 14 volts then the rect/reg has probably dropped a phase and if greater than 15 volts the regulator section is faulty.
With 14-15 DC volts at the rect/reg red and black wires, measure the battery voltage, if different then the wiring between the rect/reg and battery is a problem.

Had another go. Checked all wires first may have had a lose one tightened and tested.
Reg/rec disconnected 3 yellows ohms 99-120 fluctuating? Same kind of thing on all ohm settings.
Same 3 act all 57 4000rpm
3 yellow through v all 58 (so wiring seems ok) 4000rpm
Dc red black (mine green) reg/rec connected 11.85 at 5000
Across battery 12.68
Wife says got to get ready for wedding were off to (12.00!) so will get verdict when back, fingers crossed!

Between rect/reg red and green wires you should measure 14-15 V DC at 5000 rpm.

Each pair of yellow wires should produce approx. 50 V AC at 5000 rpm.

this was reg/rec 3yellows pulled out at tested ab,bc,ac with tester set on ohms (may have tester on wrong ohm setting but the numbers were same kind of thing?) as I was not sure about the setting did the same test on act and all were 57. i set tester on ohms and did the 3 from alternator through v to the chassis, the tester just read 1 to the far left of the screen on all three

yep got the 57 at reg/rec and 58 through the v
Between rect/reg red and green wires you should measure 14-15 V DC at 5000 rpm.
only got 11.85 on this test using dc
Hope that's a bit better run down on what got/did
If you want me to do the ohm test again please tell me what setting to put the tester on

Resistance reading between pairs of yellow wires should be no more than 02.0 ohms on the 200 ohm range, reading between yellow wires and chassis earth should be 1blank.blankblank (means open circuit) on 2000K range of your meter.

Ok magg here it is!
All chassis checks came back as 1 blank,bla...
200 ohm, engine off 00.8 at the 3 through the v and 00.9 for all tests disconnected from the reg/rec. I think where I was wrong before was doing the ohm test with it running as numbers are al over the place!
On a strap learning curve here so thanks for the help!

I'm hoping when you guys see the latest results you can also advise me on what part to get and where from, like to order up ASAP got some time off this week, be nice to get it sorted and get out on it in the great weather we have.
