I've not had the tank and airbox off since last night yet. Guess that's the next job to check the cables are connected properly. The choke cable hasn't slipped from the lever end, I checked that.

If you've had the tank off, don't forget to check that the vacuum line is connected to the fuel tap. If this is not connected the carb float bowls will empty and the engine will starve of fuel. Similar symptoms to flooding... engine runs, starts to splutter and then dies... and won't start again.

been there, done that.

I was thinking about that when I woke up this morning, and I have a sneaky feeling I might've connected one of the pipes wrong. Am I right in thinking that the bit that sticks down shouldn't have a pipe connected to it? If it shouldn't then that's the problem...

pretty sure the vacuum line goes in from the side, not the bottom!

OK according to this picture I've connect one of the pipes to the part that is labelled "vacuum/bleeder hose"
So I think I've just been blonde and connected it wrong.
Now I wanna get home and sort it out, but stuck at work!

It would make sense to have started at first becuase there was enough fuel in the carbs to get it going, but once they're empty it's not going anywhere.

That picutres not much good, there are 2 parts labelled vacuum / bleeder hose.

Which one did you connect it to?

Should be outside one.

If in doubt with the idle adjuster, look at the carbs, screw it in a little until it just opens the butterflys a little, if you follow the cable, you can see the end of it just pushes the carbs open, then screw it a little bit more and it wont be far off.

Tube in the background is the main fuel feed to the carbs, tube in the foreground is the vacuum pipe - both kind of point in he same direction....obviously I am assuming the other end of the vacuum pipe is still attached to the nipple on the cylinder :?

Check your pipe work (ohh err) 3/4 choke as always and see how you get on. might take a while if the carb bowls are now empty but stick with it. Once it has fired up, let it warm up and reset your idle to a good level.....get booted and suited and go terroise the Fen folk ;)
