Advice please, New Bike - Epoxy Resin and Oil Leak Horror

So my lovely new low mileage NC35 started leaking oil when up to running temperature the night it arrived (just over a week ago).

Looking under the engine revealed some worrying news. It appears that somebody has attempted a (botched) repair to the underside of the engine (crankcase - gearbox join?). You can see the hardened resin on the engine here https://plus.google.com/photos/10957616 ... p4r3r5DTdA.

As you can imagine I am super disappointed by this and phoned the garage that sold it to me, who also did not see the resin repair. So I have sent the bike to them for them to investigate (they have been helpful thank god).

A few other things that they will be looking at include a blowing front exhaust, a ramshackle mod to the front lights to override the default dipped mode (sigh).

Any ideas as to what might have happened to the engine and what might be involved in getting this fixed? The bike is being repaired under my 30 day warranty from the garage and I have asked them to keep me informed of the status of the work required (with pictures).

My suspicion is that whoever did the "epoxying" was also the monkey who damaged the engine - but who knows.

Do we know what part of the engine this is exactly?

The first picture looks very much like the gearchange inpout shaft housing? If it is, there is a very slim chance the oil is leaking from the output shaft oil seal. If it is, ask for your money back cos it's a split the casings down to replace it.

Oil leak photo sucks - I feel for you, I had the output oilseal go on me on a previous '35 I had. Only upside was it was an excuse to overhaul the entire engine, thankfully it was not an everyday ride so I could afford the time.

The resin photos are too close to say for sure where they are - can you post some not so close in ones, maybe highlighting the area in which its to be found?

The bike is back with the guys that sold it to me right now. The epoxy pics are taken from the front of the bike (so the right hand side of the picture is actually the left hand side of the bike if you know what I mean).

I have a suspicition that bike isnt low mileage.

Not that you can ever be 100% certain on a grey import anyway.

Even so these bikes have very good engines if looked after so mileage shoulnt be the main concern unless its astronomical.

Take your money back from the dealer and keep walking. They cannot expect to foist that upon you and it is their fault for buying in that state (or knowingly selling it to you in that state)

That is not worth sorting out on your time and money.

What did you pay for it (if you don't mind?)

I have asked them to tell me what they see when they drop the engine and turn it over to inspect the state of the epoxy and then when they further investigate where the leak is coming from. BTW I think I paid top dollar for the bike

Maybe I should just ask for a refund.....

It does look like someone has feked the engine and bodged it to shift it on quick. This time it has at least been shifted onto a dealer (probobly as a part ex) rather than an unsuspecting punter through a private "sold as seen" deal.

IF the shop tell you they have fixed it - I would be VERY sceptical as it looks like that needs a full engine swap so make sure they clarify and document what they say they have done. If you have paid top dollar as you say, and you probobly will have buying from a dealer' I would also suggest you get a refund and walk away from this one. Keep an eye out on the Bikes for sale section as good bikes at more realistic prices do come up fairly regularly, and if you look out for one from one of the more established members on here (not a one hit wonder just trying to flog a bike through the forum), you should get a much better deal and better bike.
