front forks advice please.....

Post by brod » Sat Jun 08, 2013 11:56 pm

hi all

i need some advice or opinions please my front forks seem very hard over bumps especialy at high speed, ive tried different springs and oil weights and oil levels, theres been a slight change but no matter what ive tried the front forks just dont seem to be absorbing the road like they should, any bump is just comming back to the bars feels like i have 50 pound of pressure in me front tyre. ive reduced the tyre pressure to 25 pound and theres a slight change but it still feels hard over bumps.
so i am stuck its either the tyre avon roadrider maybe the rubbers made from bouncy ball rubber  or the forks are faulty or possibly bent or this is how the superfour is, my next step is to strip the forks down any advice, opinions please,
cheers ...................

Νext thing that possibly damaged and you could check is the top bridge and the steering stem or the upper and lower bearings.I don't know how much power accept your fork from the impact.

hmm cheers its another thing i will have to check, steerings good and theres no play in the head bearings so hopefully it will be ok but they could be out of line :( , looks like a mild impact as the forks have been straightend and one has a very small crease you can hardly see it, wish i had looked a bit more at the bike before buying but the faults i have found were well hidden, it amazes me that some one is willing to sell such a dangerous bike fortunatly i new it had had a front ender so i was aware there would be a bit of work ect, if it were a new comer to bikes the result could of been unhealthy
cheers brod......

Ok,when you finish your work and mount the new fork, drive your sf in good quality road(with no small rocks or holes) and no traffic and drive the bike at about 50klm speed. Then leave your hands from the handlebar. The motorcycle must be going straight without feeling or seeing the handlebar tremble. This is one way to check your sf or any other motorcycle if everything are ok with the front fork system.
