Swingarm Bearing and Headrace Bearing Removal

Post by milbo1990 » Sat Jun 08, 2013 8:48 pm

Hi,

I tried to change my swing arm pivot bearings today and hit a dead-end when it came to removing the old bearings!

I assumed they would just tap out using drift, but they wouldn't budge! I can't see that a normal bearing puller would actually remove them either (because there's no face for it to push against).

So, is there a specific way of doing this?

I'm also having a similar problem with my headrace (the ring at the base of the stem above the dirt seal) - I've tried tapping it out with a flathead screwdriver, but it's not shifting. A normal bearing puller may do the trick with this though.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan.

Its much easier with a set of proper drifts, if the swingarm pivot bearings are the same as the nc30 they are a pig to get out, ive cut them out in the past, you should be able to tap the race off the stem with a good drift.

As DM says a good drift will sort the head race bearing, no problem when I changed mine that way
