Acoustafil

Anyone used Acoustafil exhaust wadding before?

Decided to get my bike off the road for a bit and do as many of the advisories as possible to it, and one was a noisy and leaking exhaust.

I did this last year. Its all much of a muchness, just make sure you get the stuff suitable for 4 strokes as it takes a higher heat. Pack it tightly too.
It don't matter if i'm fixin' it or ridin' it.

What heat does it need to be able to take?

All the info in the eBay listings is confusing me.

Dont know specifics but as long as its for 4 stokes you'll be fine. That acoustafill is rated to 800 deg farenheit so that'll be ample.

Don't forget your layer of wire wool wrapped around the inner tube too...

I know nothing but i always thought you wasnt meant to pack the wadding that tight :? bit like loft insulation it becomes ineffective if you flatten it with loft boards. Ive nothing factual to base this on its just what i always thought so i could well be wrong.

I've always known that air pockets are the best insulator. Which is why we use double glazing in windows and stuff.

I think I'll take the word of the acoustafil stuff and pack it loose to let it expand, if it doesn't work then bugger me I'll have to do it again.

A mate of mine had a VFR750 some years ago,It was fitted with an after market system that was a bit loud ,So he decided to repack the can,He packet it tight it sounded quiet but on his first run out it was well down on top speed,
He removed some of the packing, took it out to test and the top speed was back,So i would say don't over pack them.
