Earth wires?

Post by Jac-al » Fri May 10, 2013 9:40 pm

Hi,

How many earths are there supposed to be on a NC30?

Reason i ask is cause im busy goin through my wiring harness and theres a red wire earthed on the right hand side cover by the dipstick, the problem is when checkin it over i realised it went to the other side near the coilpack and bolted on. So its an earth to earth which is obviously not right.

Where should this lead to? Or should it even be there?

Thanks

Jac-al

The wiring loom chassis earth connection is near the front ignition coil. The NC30 loom earth wires that run to various electrical units on the bike should be green in colour. Your red earth wire is a mystery.

no..

You have an earth from reg rec, an earth on the front coil and an earth on the clock brackets.

You can, of course, fit more earths as I and many others have done and bought the kit from Rick Oliver.

I don't understand what your hoping to achieve if you can't even work out that its simply an extra earth wire that somebody has installed.

You yourself said that it runs from the coil bracket to earth.

It's a common thing, Rick Oliver sells a kit.

Perhaps the red earth wire is intended to connect the engine to the chassis, although I would have thought the numerous engine mounting points would have been adequate.

What other additional earth wires do you have with your earth kit?

I am also curious as to where the extra wires in the RO earth kit go.

Perhaps the guy who wired it up knew as much about bikes as you do.

Have you tried using google or any other search engine? The first search I did about extra earth wires on a motorbike brought this page up.

http://cbr250.com/forum/thread-302.html

Now im going to assume you wont read that so to sum it up.

Its popular with some people to install extra ground wires to try to improve the bikes electrical system and make it run better / more hp.

On an old bike with poor wiring it might help but if everythings ok then for most cases it doesnt seem to do anything.

I read that article then removed that earth and the bike is not behaving erratically so i guess someone put it there for some stupid reason.
