Post by talcumpowderbut » Sat May 04, 2013 3:24 pm

Hi guys. Just wondering if you could tell me if these are installed correctly. The middle section in the haynes manual sits alot higher than the middle section on my forks.I dont know a sausage about forks/suspension so any help would be appreciated. Heres a picture.

They look too low.

Do you have the circlip on the forks? It attaches under the top clamp.

With the circlip in place on each fork leg unbolt the forks from the top and bottom clamps.

They will stop when they are at the right height as the circlip will stop them (it serves as a locator for the forks)

Right thanks for getting back to me. I cant see any circlip. But i did see a groove which looks suspicious. Does the circlip sit inbetween the top yoke and clip ons? Here is a photoof the groove.

That's the groove!

The circlip sits in there and then goes up into the top bridge a little bit as you drop the forks through. It hits the inside of the bridge, stops the forks at the right place and lines everything up.

It looks like somebody has used that circlip groove as a visual mark for lining up the forks (incorrect) as they didnt fit the circlip (perhaps it was lost a while ago as you need to remove it when taking the forks out and they're easy to loose.)

Part number 6, aptly named "stopper ring"

They're marked as discontiniued but david silvers has at least one in stock (which woudl allow you to get the correct height and set the other accordignly.
