I'd do it to the body of the fan switch myself.NC35! wrote:Basically, I need to check for continuity between battery neg and, for example, the bolthead which holds the radiator and fan together?

You're the man! After I went back out, I checked for continuity between the fan and earth to find nothing, then tried again from the flats of the switch to earth to still find nothing.fastdruid wrote:I'd do it to the body of the fan switch myself.NC35! wrote:Basically, I need to check for continuity between battery neg and, for example, the bolthead which holds the radiator and fan together?

I took the lower rad off and cleaned up the connections between the earthing wire and the fan/radiator mount, then checked again to find perfect continuity. I let the engine warm up again, and just after half-way up the scale, the fan came on!
Fantastic! Thanks for stopping me taking the switch out to do the Haynes check-the-switch-with-boiling-coolant-on-the-cooker-while-the-boss-is-in-and-no-doubt-ranting-at-me routine!
I'm very happy! Thanks! :)

I've found I always seem to look for the complicated reason yet so often it's something small and stupid.
So now I try and start on the obvious and easy to check and work up.
