hi, ive still got a charging prob. i checked the battery earlier and the maintenance free cap on top had popped out. is this a reg/rec problem? Also i forgot to mention i got an aftermarket LED tail light could this be drawing power and will i need a relay to sort it out? shot

The led light should draw less power then the lamps! What voltages are you getting across the battery with bike not running and running with lights on/off? Sounds to me like its over charging so dont use your bike till you've tested it! otherwise you'll kill the electrics!
Cheers

Sounds about spot on to me.

Maintenance cap popping off may not even be anything to do with the charging system, could just have vibro-ed off.

Load test the battery, high beam lights ON and engine OFF. Fully charged battery voltage should remain above 12 volts more min 15-20 minutes, if not then battery is suspect.

If it's really 19.3V at 5K, then the battery is being over charged, which can lead to very poor charging, going flat quickly and general nastiness. The usual culprit for this is the reg/rec having failed, and not regulating the output. Measure the battery at 5K with lights on and off to see if the mod you did is causing issues. I doubt it will be though. 15.5V is considered the safe max for charging before you start wrecking the battery.
