CONFUKULATED REGARDING DERESTRICTING

Post by Jac-al » Sun Mar 31, 2013 5:45 am

Morning guys,
im very confused. A few months ago i did the derestricting mod behind the clocks by cutting the tab away. This morning i decided to hook up my gps to my yolk to check what top end i get. guess what, its wouldnt go over 186km/h and definately felt the limiter. i really dont understand as i followed all the steps and my bike revs all the way to almost 16k rpm in every other gear. what do u ppl think is goin on? i swear this bike is possessed

I've never done that mod but my guess is you haven't done it properly, isn't it easier just to add a resistor to the wiring?

undo the speedo drive cable and then see how fast it goes on the GPS.. If the speedo cannot tell the CDI it is going over 180 then you should have no restriction.

Doesn't the NC30 CDI go into "limp mode" if it doesn't see a speedo drive signal?
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

"Limp mode" is the result of the failure of the ignition control unit to detect the speed sensor electronics in the speedo. This happens when the speed sensor electronics fails or is disconnected. As CMSMJ1 said, undoing the speedo cable will remove the speed limiter function but retain the sensor, so the ignition control unit will remain happy.

could a fookt alternator cause this? I did the charging test and it points to a faulty alternator. bike is dead every morning

If you are now getting 14500 rpm in 6th then I doubt the speed limiter is cutting in. A 2000 rpm increase in 6th should raise 186kph to somewhere near 215 kph. Does your speedo indicate higher than 190kph, my restricted import only has a 190kph speedo. Sure your speedo can indicate more than 190kph?

An engine that revs to 14500 rpm in 6th obviously isn't worried by a dud charging system. What test did you do to determine the alternator is knackered.

with speedo disconnected i got 202km which is still under what it should isnt it? why when its connected i only got 186km and wouldnt rev more than 12.5rpm but last week it revved to 14.5rpm
