Possible rectifier issues..Help!
Now then lads,
After a bit of help please. I managed to get out for a ride today on the NC30, about 30mins maybe a little less. Bike was running well
stopped off for about 30mins, came to start the bike and it wouldn't start, the battery was flat, it would turn the bike over but wouldn't start. then after a couple of attempts it was completely flat only getting the clicking from the start soleniod.
So i charged the battery and the bike was fine again, started fine and ran well. went for a quick ride again just to see what the crack was. go home and the battery was starting to go flat again.
So i've left the battery on charge overnight, but i'm guessing it's probably not going to be the battery. should i be looking at the rectifier? if not were is a good place to start?
Just to add i've had the bike for about 8 months and this is the first time it's happened.
Cheers,
Oli

Check the rectifier multiplugs first for evidence of burning thenIf you go to the document section there's a load of info on checking the charging system on these bikes , it sounds like it probably is the rectifier a multimeter and and the system checks should get you sorted.
It's worthwhile changing the rectifier for an r6 one as the honda ones shit themselves on a regular basis.

Re: Possible rectifier issues..Help!
Hi, if you have a multimeter or even just a voltmeter (if not your gonna need one) measure the voltage across the battery with bike switched off, it should be about 12volts ish, then measure it again with the bike running and it should be about 14v at about 5000rpm. If its above 16v (dont ride it anymore you'll blow the battery and the cdi) or below 12.5v the reg/rec is prob dead.
Have a look at the connections on the reg/rec aswell they may need cleaning.
Cheers

Re: Possible rectifier issues..Help!
So I've just had a go with the multi meter and the battery is reading 12.4V when the bike is not running, then when running at 5000 RPM it reads about 12.3V.
Here are a couple of pictures of the rectifier plug which isn't looking in great condtion!

So from reading the charging system sheet, Is it looking like a Alternator issue? any advice guys?
Cheers,
Oli

Nice and toasty!!!!! You need to strip the wires back to a good bit and put some new wire on, and put some new spade connectors on, try not to use cheap crip on ones, maplin sell good spade connectors with seperate covers so get them if you can, they crimp on but solder them on aswell.
I somehow dont think you'll get away with just cleaning the reg/rec connectors up tho, it prob dead anyway. So get an R6 one off ebay or somewere. There are other modern design honda ones that some of the guys on here use but cant remember wat bikes there off.
I been using a R6 for ages and it works spot on.
Cheers

Re: Possible rectifier issues..Help!
That looks fucked.
What readings did you get when you checked the alternator?
While you're going to be re-wiring that anyway why not get yourself a new plug: http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/honda/vfr_4 ... fier_plug/
Do the charging system wiring upgrade: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=37039&hilit=wiring+upgrade
And send the alternator wiring up the left side of the bike with some suitable gauge wire: http://s1126.photobucket.com/user/olive ... ort=3&o=78
All up to you of course, but I've done all that to my charging system and it works a treat.
Get 14.9v at idle and 15v at 5000rpm, plus the voltage only drops to 13v with the bike idling with full beam on.

That plug from Wemoto is outrageously priced, you can get decent ones on eBay for a quarter of that!!

From China or Hong Kong are the ones I can find on eBay.
Long time to wait I think, but I'm quite impatient

Re: Possible rectifier issues..Help!
Thats alot of money for five spade connectors and a bit of plastic!!!!!!!!!
I dunno if that would fit a r6 reg tho if he puts one on, at least individual spades will fit almost anything.
Cheers
