Water pump rebuild
My water pump isn't turning as easily as I think it should. Has anyone stripped one down and rebuilt it? I used an ultrasonic cleaner to de-oxidized the rusty impeller but even after that, it still seems stiff.

Honda say they are not rebuildable.JC120 wrote:My water pump isn't turning as easily as I think it should. Has anyone stripped one down and rebuilt it? I used an ultrasonic cleaner to de-oxidized the rusty impeller but even after that, it still seems stiff.
If they become stiff you should replace them.
Ive always changed anyone that wasnt clean and isnt free.
Rust is a sure sign of neglected bike (ie no corrosion inhibiter in the system and not changed when its needed)
Never tried to rebuild one so no idea if it can be done

Re: Water pump rebuild
I tried once, and I ended up killing the pump. I'd take Honda's word for it not being rebuildable.

Re: Water pump rebuild
Well thats the last time I buy a used water pump off of ebay. I'll just have to get a new one.
