Push//Pull Cables.

Just wondering if there is much difference in the throttle cables. Just taken mine off as things were a bit sticky so decided to take the whole grip,housing, and cables off and clean it up. Can the cables be swapped over if i decide to go with one cable?
What do you use between throttle tube and bar or just make sure it's clean?

I never use the push cable (other on here also don't) - it just gets in the way of carb maintenance, adds complexity and is virtually no safety feature in my opinion. Straight in the bin at my place...

You could try some light grease between the throttle tube and handlebar, but if both surfaces are in good condition you probably shouldn't need it.

I opted to try and just hook up the pull cable. Thought i did well to get it on without moving the carbs. It's all new to me on this bike.
Have routed the cable correctly after cleaning grip and lubing cable ,all is slick. Problem is getting the tension back in the cable. Spring on carbs returns with a snap and grip stops all good but if i roll the throttle forward to the stop i have excess cable i think.
Is it the case that the carb spring return has to coincide with the throttle grip stop? Same cable worked ok in conjunction with the push cable.

Have you tried adjusting it at the bar end to remove slack? There's an adjusting nut on the metal part of the cable.

Yes, took out as much slack as i could at the bar end. Turned my attention to the adjuster at the carb end but not having any success . Pretty much followed the procedure outlined in the Haynes. It's like the cable is too long or the adjuster at the carb end is shot. When the bars are pointing straight ahead and the throttle grip is fully closed there should be no slack at the carb end right? Just a little freeplay as outlined in the spec. Anyway i have plenty slack.
Small bit frustrating as it's all nice and smooth and snaps back at the carb throttle cam

You can't swap the cables as the fittings are different at the bar end. The metal fitting on the end of the pull cable out screws into the housing, and has a locknut on it. The end of the push cable has something akin to a union on it, and a threaded collar to locate it into the housing. This is a larger size than the pull cable, so you can't fit either into the wrong side.

Thanks, i can see there not interchangeable after looking closer at them. I am just struggling to get any tension in the pull cable which is the only one i intend to fit.
When the cable is put on and you close the throtttle grip fully on it's stop, i have lots of slack at the carb end. Fiddling with the adjusters has not yet taken the slack out.

Where do have the adjuster on the carb end? On my new one, it's got probably less that half a dozen threads through the bracket at the rear, and that's currently giving me quite a lot of freeplay. On the other hand, one or two threads through was giving zero freeplay, and causing the throttle to stick open.

Have tried the adjuster at the carb end fully in fully out and still plenty slack. I can get it to work perfectly and it's slick with no binding snaps closed at the carb end but the throttle grip is not closed at it's stop. You then have to close the throttle grip which in turn feeds slack to the other end. It's so slick i can push down on the slack at the carb with my finger and the throttle grip spins back.
Think it has to be the adjuster that's not working or it's the wrong cable.
