First time starting since last year and nothing!
Right so my VFR has been stood since last year.
I got it out to try and start it a little earlier and nothing but a fast clicking coming from something on the right hand where the seat is.
I though it might be the battery so i whipped it out to give it a charge but it didnt really need it.
The dash lights came on as they should but when you push the started you just get this fast clicking noise!

it is the battery...
the clicking is the starter solenoid.
SO, get some jump leads on it and see if you can get it going that way..and then check your charging rate etc to be sure the battery is getting a charge and has not died over the winter.

charged should be at least 13.2V

Yea mine was 11.4 on the charger.
Ill try again tomorrow with a new battery!

New battery and it worked a treat.
Pretty sure i sulfated it real bad last year, was nice being on it again!

Keep the battery charged with an optimate type smart charger at least every 2 or 3 weeks if your not using the bike often.RandomDan wrote:New battery and it worked a treat.

Bike batteries are a lot more fragile than a car battery so will quickly loose charge capacity if allowed to run down often.
Quite a few people dont seem to know that the bike charging system isnt designed to charge a dead battery but maintain the charge of a fully charged one, so bumping a bike with a dead battery is very hard on the charging system, if you throw a dead battery into the mix it can easily cook the generator by overloading it.

Thats a fair point, usually it gets used every week or every other depending on the weather!
I would have a charger in the shed if it had power
That being said i will try and remeber to remove the battery and bring in indoors next year as i know the cold itself can cause lead acids to discharge a bit faster!
