Tips for getting NC30 hub nut off?

Hi all,

Last time I had to get a rear wheel hub nut of a VFR400 it seemed like a vast undertaking. It was like it had been put on by Dog Himself. Even with a 24 hour soak with WD40 on it. I needed to get someone to press on the rear brake lever so darn hard it was like I thought we'd break it. And I had my long socket handle put inside an old fork leg to help get some leverage, and they I practically had to swing on it. Man it was an effort.

(yes, I did lift out the little pressed-in bit on the nut that goes into the channel on the axle)

Now I have to do it again on a different bike.

So ... how do you guys get the hub nut off. Bike is NC30. Torque spec is 220 I think. And that is "darn" tight.

Thanks, I've never felt great about using the gearbox to hold stuff. I know people that get the rear wheel nut off with the bike in gear and using the gearbox to stop the wheel rotating but I always thought it would be stressful for the gearbox.

but .. yet again the dark spectre of the Rattle Gun enters my life. Maybe I might just have to get one one day.

They usually come off with someone on the bike holding both brakes on and then go at it with a big breaker bar but best way is a windy gun, takes 2 mins and without the need of help from someone else.

I used a power bar inside a 5 ft scaffold pole :-) did it on my own by carefully locking on the rear brake using a broom handle wedged under the foot peg and tied in place, was dead chuffed when I shifted that !
