NC23 Mayonnaise

Hi everyone!

Long time lurker, first time poster! I'm a student, currently living in Coventry, and have been riding a RRJ for a few months now, and I absolutely love it! I'm posting here because I think I have a problem and could really use some help!

I've had a bit of a coolant leak recently, I haven't been able to pin-point it, so tonight I took the tank and airbox off to get a proper look at what's been going on. While doing this I did find:







Tried to syphon out some coolant to have a look at that, the liquid isn't anything special but the tube has this stuff in it:



I really hope this isn't what I think it is, the oil is fine, but this mayonnaise and overflowing of it really worries me. I did think about the short journey issue, and the bike covers at least 12 miles a day, and had around a 20 mile round trip on Sunday. My plan is to clean, reassemble and then take it for a run tomorrow and strip again, to see if any more has come out. If it is the head-gasket, how long have I got before it goes bang? And how much do you think a mechanic would want to replace it, I can get a new one for around £60, but I'm not touching something like this!

On the plus side, I found the coolant leak! Leaky radiator

That is the breather from the cam cover which goes into the airbox, bits of oil do get sprayed up the pipe under hard throttle and it stays in that little box compartment on the bottom part of the airbox, aswell as the oil building up in there from the cam cover, water and moisture from cold nights can get into there from outside the airbox and after a while turns into what most people would think is a blown head gasket lol.
It does it on my bikes if i dont clean out my airbox for a while, its never been down to head gasket, always just build up of oil and water in that block in the airbox :).

You would know if head gasket had gone as you would have mayo for oil or oil in your water. Aslong as your oil is clean and your water is too then nothing to worry about just clean it up.

I also suffered from mayonnaise build up from where the last owner decided he didn't need the little filter. Glad to know what it is now.
