You do realise that the photo in the Haynes manual of where to check the clearances actually incorrectly shows the feeler gauge between the rocker and the cam, don't you? If I'd not visited this forum, when I come to do mine, I'd be measuring the wrong thing and probably end up with a knackered valvetrain. There's a difference between stupidity and someone with a lack of experience being given duff info... ;)

In which case, you could have had Haynes foot the bill for a rebuild ;)
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Except that there's a disclaimer at the front of each manual saying they'll not take any responsibility for damage or injury caused by any inaccuracy or omission in them.... lol
