NC30 rocker arm spacer, not spring? anyone know why?
Doing the valve clearances on my nc30 and in the haynes manual, it says you should be able to push the rocker arm across taking up the tension of the spring so you can get the shims out, however, mine doesn't have a spring it's just got a spacer? Is it just a different year engine or something?

Mine defo has springs on all the rockers. I moved them across and wedged a socket in to hold them back whilst i swapped the shims outpip wrote:Eh, no idea what has happened there!

Mine also has springs on them all, I used a screwdriver to hold mine back.
Maybe it's an ex race engine or something? Someone will know

hmmm, odd! yep they're all like it
I got the engine off ebay it's not the one that came in the bike the original engine has springs could i swap them back? is there any other v4 imports that might have them?
Engine number is; NC13E-1210796.
also probably worth mentioning that the spacers aren't a perfect fit around the shaft, the internal diameter of them does not match the external diameter of the shaft

I think someone has had the engine apart and lost the springs......
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

haha, seems most logical seeing as they aren't a perfect fit, best to just stick the springs back in then?thunderace wrote:I think someone has had the engine apart and lost the springs......

I be wright,I think someone has been looking at old tuning methods,But by the sounds of things hasn't done a very good job, Many moons ago when we used to tune triumphs the rockers had a spring on the shaft,
We used to remove the spring and fit bronze spacers,These would give less resistance to rocker movement.
Less drag more horse.
