Ah, right, I get you.... so as the only time a race shock linkage has to worry about a sudden dramatic increase in load carried is when Rossi picks up a bloke dressed as a chicken it can have a linear travel as it will be dialled in to suit the track and rider, and there's no danger of bottoming out?

not so much bottoming but that the rate changes to slow the stroke down. We need someone with mspaint skills to do us some stroke graphs..

How do I post a picture, I wil post a pic of the link ratio graph of the hrc link vs the standard, they are miles apart.

Std link is not good for edge grip, as some one said, it is a safe bet by Honda to give a comprimised solution if you want to carry your couch on the back of the bike.

Here is the rate graph gomez has provided which should clear up any confusion on the matter.

And here is some info copied from the email gomez sent me,
The std link has a 160Nmm spring with 12mm preload and 113mm pull arm, shock of 314, and the HRC link has 120Nmm spring with 12mm of preload and a 312.5mm shock. As you can see the ratio goes from very soft to very hard quite quickly.
