Ok from what i see there is a difference as the philips are shorter amd you have to re adjust the heights but as far as pattern goes they are very similar with the same sort of spill just brighter. Correctly adjusted they are fine and the better light makes a far more enjoyable commute and i do this every day for 60 miles motorways and very dark rain soaked country lanes where theres a black hole at every bend. Really the best upgrade I have made and for anyone who travels through those dark mornings and evenings. Alas still not upto modern car standards.

Obviously the best solution would be higher wattage h4r bulbs..

I have to confess that while modern car standards are great for the car concerned, both myself and the other half find that at night, modern cars with their highly efficient reflectors are often dazzling and almost painfully bright on dipped beam when coming the other way. Surely it can't be a case of half the new cars on the road having illegal or badly adjusted lights, can it?

I am interested in those H4R bulbs....

I am also wondering if there are any clear lenses we can mod onto our stock headlights. I am thinking of HID mini projectors....I have a set in my Fireblade and they are AWESOME. Aimed correctly and I don't get flashed by cars, so I am thinking they aren't too bad for oncoming traffic either.

I have Standard H4 bulbs in my NC30, I bruoght H4 adapter rings and installed a relay. The power for the bulbs to and from the relay (i ditched the standard wire completly) is 2mm sq 200watt wire.

The output from the relay also used the same cable and I did away with the original wire.

I had the headlights aimed by a proper motorcycle shop with proper eqipement and there is no problem with beam alignment. They are like a lighthouse. Super bright.

They are fillament bulbs the same as normal H4's, just with a different tab spacing to prevent accidental mis-fitement (which in the NC30 case will burn out your switch)

If you get some decent adapter rings or mod the headlight (not difficult) you can fit the H4 bulbs fine, when you fit the realy take the power diretly from the battery (fit an inline fuse) and you will have great headlights.

Qualtiy is only as good as the bulb you use.

Philips Extreeme or Osasm Nightbreakers are about the best you will get.

Could you post some pics and/or diagrams? I guess there's no real difference to the more common mod, except that you're only using the white (?) wire from the output of the switch to energise the relay, and the new wire run negates the need to tap into the feed for the switch before it gets there? I assume that as the start button feeds the switch, there's no interference it turning the lights off when the starter is engaged?

Hey speedy maybe ask thunderace if you get stuck. I know when I done my lights thunderace gave me some great advise including using a feed from the battery. There is a post about it but its a tad confusing and really for a model without a light switch, such as the nc35.

The silly thing about the NC35 being that while the lights are always on, the feed for the low beam goes through the hi/lo switch.... lol

When i had me rally spec 120/90w h4 in i made a loom with 2 relays with power straight from the battery to the relays, power lead was some 1.5mm mains flex which i used both wires for the positive lead and the earth for eerr earth and also grounded it off the headlight bracket aswell, was prob a bit over kill but was blood bright, now i swapped it for a hid lamp that i've shimmed so the beams right.
Cheers

For anyone contemplating headlight bulbs rated >60W, remember more power is more heat and the reflector chrome may ultimately suffer degradation. As for HID bulbs, maybe great lights but I believe they are illegal in most countries unless fitted as standard equipment and the optical characteristics of the HID bulb may not match those of your headlight reflector/lens, which could cause some serious beam pattern issues.

Curious to know from those that have fitted HID replacement bulbs, have you still got low and high beam and are they both HID. If both are HID what happens when you switch from low to high?

Some may find this link informative.

If I was looking for improved lighting I would be inclined to take the Neo path. Good quality H4 halogen (or H4R, if my source comes good at a competitive price) 55/60W bulbs, hi/lo beam relays and upgraded wiring to get full battery power to the headlights.

All those expensive kits with the ballast boxes etc are illegal in the UK if the tester is really bothered. So is anything rated above 60W per filament. All sold as 'off road use only'. Or at least, are supposed to be!
