RVF400 NC35 problem, help needed :(
Hi folks,
Been stalking this forum for awhile but recently my bike has a problem. The bike is not starting up, I've check fuses (all lights working and tested), battery seems ok and recently replaced spark plugs but has not solved the issue. I've also notice a bit of oil on my spark plugs when i pull them out is this normal?
I got it to start ONCE and it sounded really weak (with choke on), idle was around 1k or less then when I gave it a bit of throttle it just died and has not started again since... I tried taking the air filter out and starting, no go.
Would this be a fuel issue or carby issue?
Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

Erm, probably, could be about a million things...
A little oil on the plugs isn't uncommon, so it's unlikely to be an issue unless they are plastered. First things to check would be that the choke is operating correctly, and that the idle adjuster is not turned down too low. Sounds stupid, but after 10 years of having an RVF, I couldn't tell you with any confidence which way is up on the idle... lol Also, check to make sure the fuel tap is working correctly, that the vacuum hose if still fitted isn't damaged and/or hasn't come adrift, and that the fuel hose isn't kinked or squashed by something.

very likely a shit technique 
get them plugs dried on the hob and then be sure to have fuel on, full battery charge adn full choke - no throttle - do not be tempted to start winding it on thinking it works..you'll drown the plugs

The choke seems to be working, i can see it move on the carb as I adjust it. As for all the hoses, they seem fine when I checked it out, no damage from what i can see. Should I disconnet the hoses and reconnect them?
The idle adjustable on the other hand, has gone out of whack, I no longer have any reference point to which way I should turn it, clockwise or anti-clock wise...
@CMSM, I have tried that but still no go, is just doesnt fire up. I'll try it again tomorrow.

put the idle screw someways in then - you can feel when it starts to open the throttle..couple mm and you will be somewhere near.
Or, use the throttle- take the slack out the cables and then hold it just a smidgin past that.. and start.
My idle browk a while back and I used that method to get it going, the smallest bit of throttle from completely closed - rather than from the idle adjuster setting, if you get me?

Yes, that's what he's saying. That's all the idle adjuster does anyway. Thing is, if the idle adjuster has become completely detached from the carbs, then there's nothing to stop the butterflies shutting completely, so the engine will almost certainly stall. If it's come off, you need to sort that out first, and it will probably solve the issue, assuming it didn't come off after the issue started....

I've got it back in, just dont know how much it should be screwed in. Should it be at the half way point? Still don't know which way would increase or decrease rpms lol.

it pushes the throttles open..so you want to get the bike started using a teeny bit of throttle and then screw the adjuster in until it is holding the throttle open enough to idle.
on full choke it would ilde at 4k anyways??
