brake pin removal help rear nc35

Post by kidnplay01 »

hi guys,
need help please, following trusty haynes guide for removal of pads on nc35 i have hit a problem, as i had removed the pin screw to gain access to the pin to remove, but the the pin wont come out?
looking at it it looks as if i need a allen key to loosen it out, is this correct as i cant really tell cause its pretty well rounded off, which will bring me to my next problem of how to get it out if it is a allen key job given its well rounded off.

whilst im at it.,.. i had to remove the braided line i had to the calliper to get the screw cap for the pin cause that was also soft metal and screwdriver wrecked that cap, so where would i get another cap from? and would i have to bleed my brakes now i have taken off the line? i was careful by tipping the line upside down so no fluid came out but given this is my first time at taking off caliper, changing pads bit cautious.. and what pads should i put back in for the rear? and how long on average do rear pads last for? as mechanic did it last time and that was about 6,000 km/s ago i would of expected my front to go before my rear as front havent been replaced for ages..

thanks for help/advice

The pin takes a 5 mm hex driver. Not sure what to do if it's rounded - maybe try hammering in a torx bit? Should be easy once you've lossened it.

I wouldn't bother replacing the little cap thingy (yes, they are very soft!). Just locktite the pin when you put it back in. I don't have any of the caps on my bike, I find them a tad annoying.

You'll defo have to bleed the brakes when you've put it back together. The rear is mega easy compared to the front which can be an absolute b!tch.

As for pads, I wouldn't fuss too much. I don't use the rear brake unless I'm in the wet or having an 'off track excursion'. Should last you for ever really, unless you're a big back braker.

as superlite said about the rear brakes.

It really does depend on how much you use the back brake to how long they'll last. 6000km sounds like you are a heavy back brake user?

Try using the front more and the back will last longer :)

With the amount of stopping force the front brakes have you only really need to use the back if your either slipping the clutch in slow moving traffic / turning the bike around, slowing down mid corner or stopped in traffic / lights etc.

I had the same problem just hammered in a slightly oversized torx and it came out no problem. Plenty of wd40 or some heat will also assist.
