Good idea on the compression test, cheers Neo :up:

Hopefully it is just a simple fix gasket like you say, fingers crossed!

Condensation isn't smoke. If you're burning off condensation, you'll have steam coming out the exhaust, and it'll be pretty much white in colour. If you're burning oil, it'll be a sort of dirty blue-grey colour.

Plus, if it were burning oil rather than burning off condensation, it'd more likely smell of burning, rather than of unburned petrol which tends to be my experience of a steaming bike/car on a cold morning.
