Re: Kierans type one resto with a few fancy bits.
Got round to buying these:

Wish i hadnt bought the lapping tool as it doesnt fit on the tiny valve heads so i am borrowing a cordless drill and some blue tack to lap them in.
Thought i would get a practice go at removing the valves on the spare shot RVF head first incase there was anything i wasnt sure on, but in the end it turned out to be easier than i thought. Heres some photo's

Quite hard to make out from the photo's but the inlet valves are pitted and damaged quite badly, which looks like it must be from the split pin that was dropped down into the cylinder, not sure if it will be economical to repair these and the head.
More to follow shortly.

you don't need the rvf heads anyway do you? You want vfr heads and valves with rvf cams so no big problem. If you're thinking of parting with that engine minus the cams/heads then let me know as i want one on the bench to strip and polish up!

Will probably get round to finding a decent head to replace the shagged one when i have a bit more money to spare at the minute its all going on finishing the build so the spare engine is just waiting for now.
Yea Paul thats right VFR heads and RVF cams is the best option due to the bigger VFR valves and earlier lift on the intake cams, i would use the 35 bottom end with my 30 heads and 35 cams fitted but i prefer the close ratio box of the VFR.
If i had paid for the engine then yea i probably would part with it but seeing as i got it for nothing id feel guilty making anything on it, the clutch cover was unmarked on it too so that will be getting painted and used on the 30 motor aswell.
It will make its way back into a bike someday though...

No worries, there was 1 RLR RVF head floating about on ebay for ages, still dont think its sold. You could get that and copy the porting onto your other head
that is if its the right one of course.

Its been on my watch list for about 2 weeks
the other one went for a good price aswell, but still too much for me to justify buying at this stage of the build on the other motor.

The 30 and 35 use the same sized valves. FWIW the rvf head is slightly more evolved over the the 30 head and the pick of them if you had the choice.VFRkieran wrote:Yea Paul thats right VFR heads and RVF cams is the best option due to the bigger VFR valves and earlier lift on the intake cams

Oh right, im sure i read somewhere that the RVF inlet valves where 1mil smaller than VFR ones, will try and find it.Cammo wrote:The 30 and 35 use the same sized valves.
