Whose forks do I have?

A little while ago I acquired a 'new' pair of forks for my NC35, and it turned out the seller (craigs23) was literally a handful of miles down the road from me, which I found a little amusing after having been after a pair for years. He told me at the time he doesn't post much on here any more, but that the forks he sold me came from a member here, and were listed as being recently rebuilt for a rider of around my weight, and had little use before the previous owner put something more trick on their bike. One of the legs has some pretty hefty chafing on it from what I assume was a brake line, and one has a rubber ring on the lower stanchion to measure the travel.

They're on the bike, I'm perfectly satisfied with them so far and I'm not asking questions because I have any sort of dissatisfaction with them or Craig, but I was wondering who they came from and what had been done to them when they were rebuilt? At some point I intend to set the bike's suspension up to suit me when I get a new rear shock, so it would make sense to sort the forks out accordingly. I don't want to go and spend money on say new springs for the spare original forks and them find out the ones I recently got have something trick inside that I could have used!

One thing I did notice is that the preload adjusters are wound out absolutely miles in comparison to my other forks where IIRC they have normally been almost the complete opposite. I counted the rings showing, and having looked at a pic of one out of a fork leg, it would appear they are wound out past the last ring, about half way to where the next one would be if there was one. My naivety makes me think that this would be the soft end of the scale, but then I don't understand exactly the manner in which the adjuster affects things. I figure there's probably not a lot of point in tinkering too much if I'm anticipating a new rear shock as that would presumably have an effect on the front end, especially when going from what is almost certainly an original one with 117000kms on it to a brand new one sprung for someone a little tubbier than a Japanese home market rider...!

I did try, but the search rejects RVF as being too common, nothing in the for sale section back far enough, and after trawling back through dozens of pages of threads because they matched 'forks' I got fed up!

I saw a pic of his etched forks on his NC30 somewhere on here and now have a serious hankering for TiNi-ing my old forks when I rebuild them. Maybe one day I'll get hold of him for a ride out somewhere, but he gave me the impression he was really busy and works unsociable or awkward hours. Very friendly to deal with.
