Clyinder head removals.

Post by lee.pb » Sun Sep 16, 2012 8:20 am

Simple question really, can you remove the front and rear heads in the bike :!:
Or should I drop the engine, want to replace head gaskets before next track day, the bike was getting very hot and overflowed the expansion bottle when turned off (no fan fitted).
Is there anyway to check if gasket has gone, no oil in water or vies versa, have a compression tester but no adapter for vrf plug.

Yes the heads can be removed with engine still fitted as i am doing the same job on mine at the moment.
Mine was also pumping coolant into the expansion bottle and getting hot but not showing any signs of oil/water mixing.

That's a bonus, been looking at finding a 8mm adapter to do a compression test but to no avail  may just be a bad radiator cap hopefully. Got a trackdays next month so need it sorted.

They do get bloody hot and the heatsoak when you turn them off is easily enough to get it to boil over. You need to do a slower cool down lap I reckon, give it another 30 secs of cooler air without it going balls out!

If you are getting the heads off, you might as well get them valves lapped in and the casting flash removed from the ports..

Nice to see you again Jim - hope you are well..where you racing next? Happy to pit bitch for a free ticket..lol

Temps been getting upto around top of normal on a hot summers day at oulton park, have been going flat out on final lap and just pulling in the pits and turning off. May be an idea to slow down on final lap of trackdays.
What do you mean by casing flash removed ?
