HRC upgrades for the nc21??

Post by duanebray_08 » Sat Jul 14, 2012 4:38 pm

Right I've seen a lot of different hrc goodies for the nc30's like the cdi's and carb kits
And so on but do these work on the nc21? Or would I do better to put a set of nc30 carbs on with an upgrade kit and run a kph to mph converter or just save for an nc30?? I have a standard carb jet setup(112/110) and a viper endcan. I've raised the needles to 1mm but didn't drill the slides because they had 2 small holes in already. any other tricks or trick bits I can do/ buy?? Thanks in advance.

What do you want to happen or expect to achieve?

HRC did make parts for the NC21, although these will be very hard to find and if you can very expensive now.

Also, many people think that buy getting hold of HRC parts they will be bolt on power. The HRC kits for all the VFR400`s are exactly that, RACE kits.

The bike will need to idle at a minimum of 3000rpm and will be rubbish on a road.

Unless your trying to build a track bike then i`d forget the idea.

NC30 carbs wont offer a lot to the bike either, they all produced around 60hp.

weakest parts on the nc21 would be suspension and wheels (poor choice of tyres).. for the money youd spend on a decent shock and trying to get good forks and brakes and wheels youd be better off with an nc30.. they have much better choice of tyres, better suspension and good brakes.

firing order and what not aside the engine will make around the same power and will have the same amount of poke.

All depends what your after but id not spend any money on an 21.

I thought as much lol. I'm planning on getting a gsxr600/750 and using the vfr as a trackday slag but I'm guessing I'll have to go for the nc30 as there are more parts and race fairings and so on. Well that's the end of that one. Thanks for the quick reply.

No worries.

It depends on your level of trackday comitment too.

The 21 is a fun little bike but depending on your skill and how hard you want to ride youll reach the limits of the 21 very quickly, tyres / brakes and frame are all much better on the 30 so cheaper to get a hacked up 30 and use it as a cheap track bike.

Never done a trackday yet. But that said I can borrow a van and have a fair bit of spare time on my hands so dependant on my laziness I could get in to in. I suppose I should just do a trackday on it as it is and see how I and the bike get on then take it from there. I'm in Leicester so I little trip to mallory isn't too far out the way.

Yep..no point trying to run before you can work.

My advice is make sure the bikes in good mechnical condition, check the chian / tension air pressure and tyres, coolant and oil etc.

Leave the bike as standard and do a few trackdays on it.. in the worst case you:ll run off and end up in the gravel.

You can still have some great fun on the bike so i:d leave it as it is until you reach its limits.

The nc21/24 pegs are a little low (as are the 30:s actually) so you:ll be scraping them in most bends once you start pushing hard.

Not at Mallory he won't
(either that or I really don't pay enough attention on track!.. Actually there might be some at the elbow, hmmm... Ignore me, ramble ramble)

I've developed a soft spot for naked NC21's, I almost bought one for £400 last year but it wasn't eligible for the club I wanted to race it in (due to being an import only model).

Wish I'd bought it anyway, lovely little thing. Especially with nothing road legal in the garage, sigh...

As for tyres Avon do some nice ones in your sizes, the race tyres are lovely,
they do good AM26 road legal too, no need for tyre warmers either.

As for the suspension, just be smooth and the crap old suspension will be fine, I'm racing on 26yr old springy boingy things and thats on a 200+kg 750cc :o
