Exhaust, is it worth it
This exhaust was blowing on the manifold after being dropped.
I have taken it off now but wanted some advice on how to get it looking half reasonable.
so first, its taken some force to get it off, what is inside the collars and does it need to be replaced? there were a couple of rings in there but they have turned to dust practically.

Next question - can i do anything with the damage or is it just best left alone.

and finally, what do i clean it up with, i had a quick go at a non visible bit with a wire wheel on the drill, it cleans it yes but doesnt leave a great finish.

oh and finallly finallly, should i just save up for a half system? I supppose i could cut the can off somehow - some people do that dont they and put a slip on on it instead dont they?
Sorry for the stupid questions!!
Here is the little ripper ..... a sorry state for now.

Re: Exhaust, is it worth it
If you need the bike on the road now and don't have the money for a half system then yes repair it.
If you don't need it on the road save your money and buy a half system.
That exhaust is still of some value, not much as the new buyer still needs to repair it but it's still of use.
I'd buy it as I have a can for it and I'd find someone to repair it

Re: Exhaust, is it worth it
Check the subframe isn't bent
There easy to bend as the exhaust is heavy and bolted to it.. when I dropped mine I brought a new replacement original silencer cheap but it wouldn't fit! The subframe was bananad!
Had to get an unbent subframe too.
If your not fussed about originality you can cut the can off and put an aftermarket on to make it look less scabby

Was waiting for a comment on the lump hammer! Had to persuade the rusty collars to let go of the front pipes.Vparts wrote:Im liking the lump hammer and cold chisel, did you use that to get the fairings off
Best way to check subframe? By eye?
I am in 2 minds with the bike. strip and restore or just get it roadworthy and see if its worth the hassle next year. No rush really

Re: Exhaust, is it worth it
Sorry to thread jack, but I want a full system (although I don't have the £600 to buy one!).
How much could I sell this for? AFAIK it's a yamamoto half system with a venom end can?
