NC35 electrical issues
My '95 RVF400 which I bought recently, has been giving me a major headache.
When it first came, the battery wasn't charging and kept dying, as the bike's under warranty, I sent the bike to the dealership to be fixed, they rewounded the stator and gave me the bike back. The bike ran fine for a day, then the battery went flat again, I charged it up, ran it, then the bike died while I was riding it as I gave it throttle, the bike was also not idling consistently, and the rear lights weren't working as well.
What could be wrong with the bike?

Got a multimeter and a Haynes manual? If so, then do the tests the Haynes manual says.
Or bring it back to the dealership and tell to check the regulator/rectifier.

Re: NC35 electrical issues
classic problem..
have a search for reg/rec or rectifier
There are some tests you need to do to eliminate the point of failure.
I'd say most of us on here have had some charging ballache! It is easy to diagnose, not too pricy to sort and once you do it right, it will last you some years. Just doing half ot it...like the stator (which I bet was not the fault) is not the way...

A classic example of shit main dealer service, your problem is very basic mechanics and they failed at that. I cringe to think how many paying customers have been charged over inflated repair bill's for their NC's due to mis diagnosed problems by main dealers.
Let me guess, your bike came fully serviced did it? yet they missed a basic electrical issue. Id be checking the rest of the bike if it were me.

Re: NC35 electrical issues
i think most have had similar issues at one timr or another.. and electrics do send a lot of people running! includung me.. but when i had the same problem i bit the bullet and bought a multimeter..
following this guide will hopefully help solve your problems :)
http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/acatalog ... G-&-RR.pdf
when testing the three yellow wires at the connector block on the right hand side, just under the infil, make sure the block is in good nick and not corroded/burnt.
if you arent sure about using a multimeter, go to youtube for a few tutorials :)
hope you get it sorted mate and are on the road again soon...

Re: NC35 electrical issues
Thanks guys, will check out that guide :) Good to know it's quite common, what annoys me is that it took them two weeks to 'find' the problem, another three to rewound the stator, and another week to test ride it, which I doubt they did or I wouldn't have the bike dying on me on the road.
Anyway, they're picking up the bike tomorrow, hopefully they fix it. If it comes back and it's not working, will just end up following the guide and asking you guys for guidance along the way :)
At least the few times I have actually been able to ride the bike have been amazing.
Another quick question, whenever you guys stop, i.e. traffic light or waiting in traffic, does your bike immediately get hot?? like mine will go from roughly 35% to about 70% in a few minutes, it will then proceed to idle rather inconsistently.
Thanks for your help! :)

Where are you located? If you're in Australia, which dealership did you buy the bike from?
In warmer weather, my bike usually get's pretty hot in traffic. 3/4 isn't that bad, fan comes on around there and sorts it out.

Re: NC35 electrical issues
For me stopped in traffic or slow running in summer, temperature rises to just over 90 deg (50%) in 3-5 minutes and then fan kicks in. Winter in Sydney just means temp will rise slower. 70% of full scale sounds a bit high, might explain the idle inconsistency, overly hot engine upsetting the fueling. Fan temperature switch might be suspect. What temperature reading do you get during normal running?
Would not give the dealer more than a few days to fix the problem, and that's being generous. Six weeks to NOT fix a charging system problem, I don't think so! Also curious as to who has been duding you?

Re: NC35 electrical issues
If you bought from Sumoto, then your chances of having the bike repaired in a realistic time frame and to an acceptable standard is approximately 0. They are the WORST dealership in Australia, and frankly, I'm surprised the ACCC hasn't been knocking on their door and shutting them down for their atrocities.
If it's not them, then give it back to the dealer and tell them that you want them to test and replace ANY faulty items. Also tell them that if you find another issue once you receive it within a month, then you will require compensation or you will take the issue up with the ACCC.
Did they give you a loan vehicle to use when they had your bike for a month and a half?
