Jack up plate - NC35

Post by perculiarraddish »

Hi all,

Having bottomed out (again!) on a ride through a dip in road the other day and scraped (thankfully not split!) my belly fairings - not to mention the feeling that my kidneys were gonna pop out where the sun don't shine :o I've been looking at jacking up the rear for more clearance. A new shock is in my future but not likely in the immediate future.

What are the effects of the RO replica HRC jack up plates -

Extra 35mm rear height?
What effects on handling would I see as I imagine the geometry would change not only at the rear but front as well?

Advice & guidance please o knowledgeable ones :worthy:

Cheers
Chris

Adding the jack up plate will make the bike want to turn in faster and add a certain amount of load to the front end. This means you may have to add some pre-load to stiffen the front. Adding front pre-load will rais the front a fraction too. It sounds liek the spring is worn so adding the jackup plate wont stop the spring being to soft and you may still bottom out. you could get a replacement spring as a stop gap, but probably best to get an aftermarket shock with ride height adjustment built-in.

Yep, new shock is in my future

Any idea which new shocks for the NC35 have ride height adjustment?

With the adjustment I wouldn't need a jack up plate I presume?

Cheers

Ohlins have height adjustment, maxtons dont, dunno about the rest but you dont generally need the jack up plate as most aftermarket shocks are 10mm longer to start with.

My WP one is height adjustable.
I couldn't wait for success, so I went ahead without it.
