Hi everyone
As time goes on my plan is to have my super fours frame resprayed and touched up (if funds go well) but at the moment I want to focus on some rust patches - namely the gear lever arm (ok i have no idea exact name! hope description is enough) and some other parts. How do you recommend I go about this? Mostly it's chrome parts of bike (she was idle over 2 years outside before I bought her so now giving her some TLC). Also, there is some on the frame and engine could do with a clean up - was recommended to use a wire brush on this.
New to bikes so any recommendations appreciated! :)
thank you

Re: rust removal/treatment
Depends how bad the frame is? If its only a few light bits in the nooks and crannies id use a soft wire brush (normal might be too rough and leave scores which you might see through the paint?) and mayeb rub down with a bit of rough sandpaper after. Once you clean those bits up paint them with something along the likes of Kurust to kill it as much as you can. For the frame you'd be best getting it powdercoated then painted would be my recommendation, it'll hide any rough bits and give it a bit more protection
If the frame is rough as a badgers hole, you may get the drill and wire wheel out and hope for the best lol, then contine with the rubbing it down a bit smoother and then kurust etc.
Chrome bits again it depends how bad they've got. Could start with some wire wool and autosol and see how you go from there, but you might find if its been out for a couple of years, that there'll be some pitting you just wont be able to remove?
Engine, rather you than me lol. Havent had any experience there so i'll leave that to those who have

Re: rust removal/treatment
thanks for replying. well frame is only a few patches. As for chrome - again not overly deep (exception maybe the gear lever/foot lever) so probably the soft wire brush etc would work. She's currently in the mechanics getting few pieces done so may ask if he has parts for lever and replace it altogether.
engine wise - its more it was painted black which has flaked off in parts so maybe just remove the loose bits to tidy it up. cheers

Re: rust removal/treatment
got a tip from a mate - vinegar and a sponge with a mild scrubber on the back - works great. will need to get a tooth brush or something for the smaller/harder to reach spots :)
thanks :)
