return of the Cbr ,First time Engine rebuild
Hi Guys Its been a while since ive posted, i got rid of my cbr 2 years ago {swapped it for a bandit that needed some work} after getting that fixed up and on the road i started missing all the fun i had had on my little cbr,riding just wasnt the same
Luckly i got a chance to buy mine back but it now had a blown head gasket and warped front disc's
Once i got it back home i removed the engine and did a wet/dry compression test only to find that the rings would need replacing aswell, but i didnt mind as i was just glad to have it back.
So i started to dismantle the engine with a friend thinking it would only take us a day or so to replace the rings and have it back together {first time ever doing this} and then i could start on the rest of the bike.
After we removed the cylinder head and camshaft drive gears we were shocked to find the barrels were connected to the crankcase.
so after lots of reading of the haynes manual we found out that we had to split the engine to do the rings
We took the clutch casing off and removed the clutch springs and plate but thats where we stopped as we couldn't find a way to lock the clutch to remove the clutch nut and alternator rotor bolt.
We did try to lock the gears behind the clutch with a rag and then use a impact driver to free the clutch nut and rotor bolt but had no luck with it.
I just wanted to ask if anyone could give me some advise on how to do this as im totally stumped?
Many thanks Chris

Hi Graeme, thanks for the quick reply just had a look at one but dont think i could afford one even if it was second hand {on a low budget}
A friend did recommend one of the car wheel nut one but i didnt think it would be strong enough
I did look at the universal clutch/ flywheel holding tools
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-Tools- ... 0666811895
but didnt think they would work on the nc29 clutch {as clutch plates are in the way} or the pegs would be too short to fit in the flywheel .

Looking at the picture in the haynes manual, i would think that universal holder would be ok. Or hold the front sprocket with some mole grips and don't forget the locking tab on the clutch nut!

Split the engine??? The barrels just lift off after you undo all the necessary bolts as per the Haynes.
On the NC23 at least....
