CDI ignition

Post by james91 »

Hey,
Just wondering whether anyone could tell me if one of those aftermarket digital CDI ignitions is worth getting....Do they improve low end and performance in general at all or do they just take away the 180kmh speed restriction?

I wouldn't touch them - there are various tales on this forum of users blowing their engines when using these cdi's.

I'd be very surprised if they did anything other than remove the 180 km/h restriction.

There are many chinese copy ignitions with alleged 'HRC' map on them forsale on ebay and the like, with claims they improve power, no limit etc.

They often have no rev limiter so easy to break engine.

The proper HRC ignition box wont' fit a standard loom as is designed to be used with the HRC kit (i.e cams / pistons / carb / porting etc)

For almost all cases the stock ignition box is fine.

Good to know. I know that the HRC parts are intended to work in sync together but I always assumed you could throw the HRC CDI on a stock bike and start from there.

On a NC35 you can, theres no kit engine parts for the 35 and the HRC CDI fits the stock loom.
On the NC30 theres 2 options, 1 is the SS/SP HRC setup which uses no kit engine parts, a stock CDI with HRC piggy back box of tricks to remove the stock restriction. 2nd option is the TT-F3 setup which uses many kit engine parts and a HRC CDI which only fits the HRC loom.
