Help! Clutch cable

Post by james91 »

Ok so I need some much appreciated help.
I recently picked up a 92 nc30 and I don't know much about these bikes.
The sprockets and chain were really dirty so I sat down to tension the chain and clean sprockets etc. I pulled the housing peice off where the clutch cable and speedo cable link to the engine (not sure what it's called) to clean the shit out of the front sprocket. Now here's the problem, I can't get the peice to go back in properly so that the clutch operates. It all bolts back on fine but I'm getting a limp clutch lever.
I suspect it's something to do with the little cup shaped peice that contact the big 30cm rod that goes into the engine. (not sure what that is either). Please pardon my ignorance.
Please help.

Did you put the spring back on the right way?

Yer Im pretty sure. It seems to work like it should when i hold the housing in my hand and turn the lifter arm but when i put it back on and it joins to the lifter rod it doesnt seem to want to work.
Its not an overly complicated part so theres not really a reason why it shouldnt work its just frustrating.
I thought maybe if i put it in neutral and start it for a second and see what happens then......?

I've got to put mine back together for the first time later, so I'm no expert, but have you greased the end of the lifter rod? There's a bit about it on Page 10-2 and 3 of the Honda Service Manual.

http://www.400greybike.com/files/NC30%2 ... Manual.pdf
"Turn the lifter arm counterclockwise and connect the cam and liter rod by engaging their projections and dents. Apply molybdenum disulfide grease to the lifter rod end."

Also check the clutch cable isn't caught on anything - is it routed correctly?

Its all good, I got it back together thank christ. I was only trying it without torquing all the housing bolts right up because i wanted to get it right and working before i tightened them. But i thought by tightening them right up something might be different and turned out it worked. So i sat there for hours and all i was doing worng was ...well ....nothing. Idiot.

But thanks heaps for offering help, I really appreciate your time.

No problem. I've had a look over mine at lunch time, and at least I know what to do when I put it back together now!
