Best sprocket gear ratio for racing?

Post by doodleface »

Hey guys I'm buying some stuff from rick-o and was gonna get some sprockets too. I'm not sure what this bike is running up front sprocket wise but for the race track does anyone have a recommendation.

Right now I "think" i'm running a 15/42. Seems ok. as it does need to wind out down the straight, but its a twisty ass track this year.

Just wondering if anyone had a recommendation.
Cheers.
James.

IIRC you have an rvf right?

15/42 is already pretty low with an rvf gearbox but it really depends on the track. If it's 'really' tight and twisty you'll need at least a 14t front sprocket.

You can download a gearing calculator (excel file) here that's useful, you can get all the information you need to plug into it from the haynes manual: www.epicycle.com.au/images/gearing%20calculator.xls

I use:

I added the NC30, but not the 35. If you have a Haynes, then you can submit all the info and they'll add it to the DB.

Thanks again, massive learning curve here but totally awesome. Love your work.
Cheers. I'm thinking 14 front and I already have a 42 and 45 tooth rear, might get a 38 tooth rear too which will cover me all tracks all conditions.
