Rear Wheel Bearings
Hi, last week while sorting my bike I noticed the rear bearings seemed to have some play so bought some new ones.
I tried knocking the old ones, as the Haynes manual suggests but cant budge them, I cant get enough power on the very small lip of the bearing.
Can anyone recommend a way that might work? I have been quoted £20 to do it but would rather try myself. possibly I should be using a better drift and not an old screwdriver but its all i got that will reach.
any help please.

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings
I had the same problem getting the bearings out. I soaked them with WD-40 and it did the trick.

had to have the last set cut out the wheel as they were jammed it far too well!

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings
I gave in and gave it to my local bike fixer hero Graeme Little who charged 15 notes and commented that they were very tight. I would have liked to do the job myself but lack skill and a decent drift soon put me off.

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings
you need a drift....thats not much smaller that the actual axle to hit the lip of the bearing...
anything smaller wont connect and give it the desired power to move the bearing

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings
i used a socket and exstention bar but cant remember what size now, worked a treat, though i did split my right thumb open when i slipped and whacked it into the rim, when i came back from a and e i held the exstention bar with a spanner, you live and learn
