Re: 5000 rev rattle....
First the obvious - is anything loose? I had a vibration at about 8K on my GSX-R 600, thought the worst, kicking myself for buying a bike second hand, etc. Took it to the track and took the mirrors off, and when I put them back on the rattle was gone. It was a few fasteners loose on the screen that was causing the vibration.

If it is a resonant rattle - comes and goes - then it surely is something loose and you just need to be methodical and check everything for tightness.

Re: 5000 rev rattle....
you can sometimes get a rattle or resonance if you have stainless headers - dont ask me why - i recall reading it in another post.

Re: 5000 rev rattle....
mines not exactly at 5000 revs it just comes and goes at different revs but its very apparent when ya give a quick twist of the throttle from idle, it really does sound like something in the headers but theres nothing there. i do have the stainless headers so it could be that ill try dig that thread out if i can, is it fixable

Re: 5000 rev rattle....
well just got my bike back and the culprate has been found this lovely chunk of metal was inside the headers, the mechanic said its a balancer and woulda been tacked in there and it came loose he had t cut the header and re-weld it back up to get it out, the bike is spot on now :)
