Pipercross filter

Hi all,
Just bought a pipercross air filter for my 1992 sf and find it doesnt appear to fit.It was listed and labelled on the box as MPX 123 CB400 SF and is supposed to fit 1992-1999.Difference seems to be its oval in shape, about 6mm longer,and i dont think it would fit on the plastic tube inside the air box.
Ive sent a message to the dealer asking for a refund,and am waiting for a reply.Has anyone else had this problem,with these filters,and do the K&N filters fit and work well?
